On November 15, 2023, in Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, National Coordinator for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation, emphasized the importance of the well-being of Mexican workers contributing to the success of entrepreneurs and the country’s development. During the XV National Ordinary Congress of the Autonomous Confederation of Mexican Workers and Employees (CATEM), Sheinbaum Pardo announced the formalization of a coalition with this organization as part of efforts to engage various sectors of society in transforming the country’s public life.
In her speech, Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted the favorable moment Mexico is experiencing and underscored the importance of avoiding regression to the past. Instead, she urged continued efforts to expand labor rights in the country. “We share a fundamental objective: we do not wish to return to a past of corruption and privileges; rather, we want the Fourth Transformation of Mexico’s public life to continue,” she affirmed.
After swearing in the first Labor Committees for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation of CATEM, out of the more than 10 thousand that will be created, Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized the goal of continuing to ensure that workers have access to a dignified life, which can be achieved in collaboration with entrepreneurs, following the example of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who has prioritized the principle of “for the good of all, the poor first” for Mexico’s continuous growth.
“I commit to the workers of Mexico to continue defending their wages and labor benefits… Therefore, the commitment is to continue advancing together for the well-being of workers and our country,” she concluded.
In this regard, Pedro Haces Barba, senator of the Republic and general secretary of CATEM, briefly summarized the achievements that have been made thanks to the collaboration between representatives of the working class and the government of the 4T, such as the increase in the minimum wage, the increase in vacation days, the elimination of outsourcing, among many others. In this sense, he emphasized that to continue working for the workers of Mexico, it is necessary to guide every decision under the principles of the 4T movement, whose defense is led by Claudia Sheinbaum.
“From this fifteenth ordinary congress, Doctor Claudia Sheinbaum reaffirmed our commitment to the principles of the Fourth Transformation in these crucial defining moments,” he celebrated.
Senator Ricardo Monreal emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong relationship between the government and workers to continue expanding labor rights. He stressed that this will only be possible under the leadership of Sheinbaum Pardo.
“It is crucial to forge a pact and an alliance at this moment with Doctor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo,” he emphasized.
The XV National Congress of CATEM was attended by Governor Mara Lezama of Quintana Roo, Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila of Baja California, as well as Governors Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla of Michoacán, Sergio Salomón of Puebla, and Miguel Navarro of Nayarit. Mario Delgado Carrillo, national president of Morena, was also present.
