Police in downtown Campbell responded to a heated dispute that escalated into a violent confrontation, leaving one person seriously injured.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening when a verbal altercation between the suspect and the victim turned physical. The suspect, whose identity has not been released, allegedly hit the victim with their car before fleeing the scene.
“We received multiple calls from witnesses reporting a fight in progress on First Street,” said Sergeant Lisa Smith. “Upon arriving at the scene, we found the victim lying on the ground with severe injuries. The suspect had fled the scene, but we were able to apprehend them a few blocks away.”
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and is said to be in critical condition, with multiple broken bones and head trauma. The suspect, who is believed to be known to the victim, is currently in police custody and will face charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
Police have not disclosed the nature of the dispute or the relationship between the suspect and the victim. However, witnesses at the scene reported that the argument seemed to have stemmed from a disagreement over a parking spot.
“I was just walking by when I saw the two of them arguing over a parking spot,” said Jane Thompson, a witness at the scene. “Next thing I know, the suspect gets in their car and runs over the victim. It was a horrific sight, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”
The incident has left the usually peaceful downtown Campbell community in shock and disbelief. Many residents, like Samantha Rodriguez, are concerned about the safety of the area.
“I’ve been living here for years, and it’s always been a safe and friendly neighborhood,” Rodriguez shared. “But something like this happening just a few blocks away from my home makes me worried. I hope the police take strict action against the suspect and ensure that justice is served for the victim.”
Despite the unfortunate turn of events, the police are urging the community not to jump to conclusions and to let the investigation run its course. They are also reminding the public to keep their cool and handle disputes in a peaceful and non-violent manner.
“We understand that people can get angry and frustrated, but it’s never okay to resort to violence,” said Sgt. Smith. “We urge everyone to take a step back and avoid confrontations that could lead to serious consequences. We are committed to keeping our community safe, and we will not tolerate any acts of violence.”
The incident serves as a reminder to always keep calm and resolve conflicts through peaceful means. The victim, who is currently fighting for their life, deserves justice and the community’s support in their recovery.
The City of Campbell and its residents are sending their thoughts and prayers to the victim and their loved ones during this difficult time. Let us all come together and show that our community stands united against any form of violence.
