DGCA to Address Concerns Over Wheelchair Availability and Delays in Domestic Airlines

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is set to meet with domestic airlines to discuss and address the concerns raised by passengers regarding delays and limited availability of wheelchairs. This move by the aviation regulator comes as a relief to passengers with disabilities and mobility issues who have been facing difficulties while traveling by air.

In recent times, there have been numerous cases reported where passengers with disabilities have faced delays in getting their requested wheelchair assistance at airports. This has not only caused inconvenience to these passengers but has also resulted in missed flights and disrupted travel plans. The limited availability of wheelchairs has only added to the problem, making it a major concern for air travelers with disabilities.

The DGCA has taken note of these issues and has called for a meeting with all domestic airlines to discuss the matter and find a solution. The meeting, scheduled to take place next week, will focus on addressing the concerns raised by passengers and finding ways to improve the overall experience for passengers with disabilities.

One of the key points that will be discussed in the meeting is the need for airlines to ensure that there is an adequate number of wheelchairs available at all times. The DGCA has emphasized that it is the responsibility of the airlines to provide proper assistance to passengers with disabilities and ensure their comfort and safety while traveling. The airlines will also be urged to have a system in place to keep track of the number of wheelchairs available and to replenish them when needed.

Another important aspect that will be addressed in the meeting is the issue of delays in providing wheelchair assistance. The DGCA has made it clear that any delay in providing the requested assistance is unacceptable and strict action will be taken against airlines found guilty of such negligence. The airlines will be directed to have a dedicated team in place to handle wheelchair assistance requests promptly and efficiently.

The DGCA has also stressed the need for proper training of airline staff in handling passengers with disabilities. This includes not only the ground staff but also the cabin crew. It is important for all staff members to be aware of the needs of passengers with disabilities and to provide them with the necessary assistance and support throughout their journey.

The meeting will also focus on the issue of accessibility for passengers with disabilities at airports. The airlines will be urged to work closely with airport authorities to ensure that all necessary facilities are in place for the smooth movement of passengers with disabilities. This includes wheelchair ramps, accessible restrooms, and designated parking spaces, among others.

The DGCA’s initiative to address the concerns of passengers with disabilities is a commendable step towards making air travel more inclusive and accessible for all. It is a positive move that will not only benefit passengers with disabilities but also improve the overall experience for all air travelers.

In conclusion, the meeting between the DGCA and domestic airlines is a much-needed step towards addressing the concerns raised by passengers regarding delays and limited availability of wheelchairs. It is a positive development that will go a long way in making air travel more comfortable and hassle-free for passengers with disabilities. With the right measures in place, we can ensure that every passenger, regardless of their abilities, has a smooth and pleasant flying experience. Let us hope that this meeting leads to concrete solutions and sets a precedent for the future.
