Nacha Mendez, a nationally acclaimed singer, composer and New Mexico State University alumna, has been selected by New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham to serve as the state’s first-ever Music Ambassador. This prestigious appointment is a testament to Mendez’s talent and dedication to the arts, and it is a source of great pride for the NMSU community.

Born and raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Mendez discovered her passion for music at a young age. She honed her skills as a singer and songwriter while studying at NMSU, where she received a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. Her time at the university not only provided her with a strong foundation in music theory and performance, but also instilled in her a deep appreciation for her cultural roots and the rich musical traditions of New Mexico.

After graduating from NMSU, Mendez embarked on a successful career as a musician, captivating audiences with her soulful voice and unique blend of Latin, jazz, and folk influences. Her music has been described as a celebration of her Mexican-American heritage, with lyrics that reflect her experiences growing up in the border town of Las Cruces. She has released several albums, including the critically acclaimed “Corazon” and “Cantos del Alma,” and has performed at prestigious venues and festivals across the country.

Mendez’s talent and dedication to her craft have not gone unnoticed. She has received numerous awards and accolades, including the New Mexico Hispano Music Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year and the New Mexico Music Award for Best Latin Song. She has also been recognized by her alma mater, receiving the NMSU College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Alumni Award in 2017.

Now, as the state’s Music Ambassador, Mendez will have the opportunity to use her platform to promote and elevate the music and musicians of New Mexico. In this role, she will work closely with Governor Lujan Grisham to showcase the diverse musical landscape of the state and highlight the contributions of New Mexico’s artists to the cultural fabric of the nation.

Mendez’s appointment as Music Ambassador is a significant milestone for the state of New Mexico. It not only recognizes her talent and achievements as a musician, but also shines a spotlight on the vibrant and dynamic music scene in the Land of Enchantment. As she takes on this new role, Mendez is determined to use her voice to inspire and uplift others, just as she has done through her music.

In a statement, Governor Lujan Grisham expressed her excitement for Mendez’s appointment, saying, “Nacha Mendez is a shining example of the talent and creativity that can be found in New Mexico. As our state’s first Music Ambassador, she will be a powerful advocate for our artists and musicians, and I have no doubt that she will make us all proud.”

For Mendez, this appointment is a dream come true. She sees it as an opportunity to give back to the state that has nurtured her talent and supported her throughout her career. She hopes to use her platform to encourage young musicians and inspire them to pursue their passions, just as she did at NMSU.

As a nationally acclaimed singer, composer, and NMSU alumna, Nacha Mendez has proven that with hard work, dedication, and a love for one’s craft, anything is possible. Her appointment as New Mexico’s Music Ambassador is a testament to her talent and a source of inspiration for the entire NMSU community. We congratulate Mendez on this well-deserved honor and look forward to seeing her continue to make a positive impact on the music world and beyond.
